Sergi Esteve i Garcia was born in 1991 in Barcelona, Catalonia. From a young age on, he developed a sensitivity and a special interest for the claims of stateless nations and minorities. For him, individual freedom is never complete without collective freedom and the right of self-determination is an inherent right for all peoples.

He cofounded OPCAT, the first observatory of internal functioning of Catalan political parties, where he was a project analyst. Before joining EFA, Sergi worked for the Ministry for Foreign Affairs Catalonia for two years in addition to working at Catalonia Trade & Investment – ACCIÓ for one year. Sergi was also a research trainee at CIEMEN, where he studied the connections between migrants and the pro-independence movement of Catalonia.

Sergi holds a Master’s degree in Political Analysis at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya and a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra.

He thinks that education, culture, feminism and diversity must be the basis of any true democratic society.
