Aio' ch'hè ora ! EFA General Assembly 2016

The biggest annual EFA family meeting starts in a week in Corsica

The time has come! More than 150 delegates representing more than 45 EFA member and candidate parties will gather from the 31st of March to the 2nd of April in Aiacciu/Ajaccio, Corsica for the General Assembly of EFA, its political foundation Centre Maurits Coppieters and the EFA Youth.

The slogan of this year's General Assembly is "Aio' ch'hè ora !" or "Come on, it's time !" and was used by the EFA-supported coalition Pe A Corsica who won the historic election last December, giving Corsica its first ever pro-autonomy government. A government that already started to put on the Paris table the issues of self-determination for the Corsican people, the co-official status of the Corsican language and the situation of the Corsican political prisoners.

These will be also the main points of focus during the General Assembly, together with the developments in Catalonia and Scotland, the UK referendum, the migrant crisis and the terrorist attacks that shook us all.

The EFA member parties, already in government in many EU member states, will have the opportunity to present policies and ideas to tackle these very important issues.

Representatives of the press are as always most welcome to attend the opening of the event on Friday April 1st, followed by a press conference (11am) with EFA President Francois Alfonsi and EFA MEPs Josep Maria Terricabras (President of the EFA Group in the European Parliament) and Jill Evans.

A 2nd press conference organized by EFA Youth on the issue of the Corsican language will be held on Saturday April 2nd (11am).

At the same time, a series of fringe meetings are also programmed during the whole course of the General Assembly. These include a Corsican government-NPLD meeting on the Corsican language, a meeting between EFA MEP Jill Evans and the EU Affairs Committee of the Corsican Parliament and an official meeting between Gilles Simeoni, President of the Corsican Government and Jordi Sole, State Secretary for Foreign Affairs of the Catalan government and EFA Secretary General. Mr. Sole is expected to hand Mr. Simeoni an official invitation from the Catalan President Carles Puigdemont to visit Catalonia.
