Declaration on the independence of Kosova

Commenting on the declaration on independence of the Kosova parliament in Pristina today the 17th of February 2008 at 15.40h, the European Free Alliance congratulates all the citizens of the new state, the Republic of Kosova. The EFA is very happy with the adoption of the declaration by all the Kosovarian members of parliament.

The declaration read by the president of the parliament announced that: “the present members of the Kosova Parliament unanimously adopted the declaration of an independent Republic Kosova”.

President of the European Free Alliance Nelly Maes underlined that:

“After years of hope and many sacrifices a historic moment presents itself to the world. Independence for Kosova.

EFA was always in a fruitful co-operation with the late Mr. Rughova. Today’s victory is a tribute to his endless efforts to see the rights of Kosovarian people respected.

We hope that the Kosovarian society can live in peace from now on. Tolerance is a key issue to establish a sustainable and permanent peace. The European Union should open its doors for Kosova.”

*Kosova is the name of the new country in the Albanian language.

** The Kosova flag shows six white stars in an arc above a golden map of Kosovo on a blue field. They are meant to symbolise Kosova's six major ethnic groups: Albanians, Serbs, Turks, Gorani, Roma and Bosniaks. The colour of European flag (blue) as the background of the flag symbolises the Kosovar's plan to at some point join the European Union.
